Aurélien Ponte's main interest lies in improving the dynamical understanding, the observability, and, the numerical representation of oceanic motions such as mesoscale/submesoscale turbulent structures as well as internal waves and tides. Aurélien obtained a PhD in Physical Oceanography at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (La Jolla, USA) in 2009. Aurélien occupied a postdoctorate position at Ifremer-Brest (LOPS laboratory) where he ultimately became a permanent researcher in physical oceanography. He is a member of the science team of the upcoming SWOT mission (high resolution altimetry).
