Joe LaCasce was a student in the MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Joint Program in Oceanography, studying large scale turbulent motion over topography. After finishing his PhD, he took a post-doc at IFREMER in Brest, studying Lagrangian dispersion. Afterwards he worked as an assistant scientist at WHOI, before moving to Norway in 2002. He is currently a professor of oceanography and meteorology at the University of Oslo. A continuing area of interest is the use of satellite and Lagrangian observations to deduce characteristics of the ocean circulation.
